Meet our very own Kickstarter

We are thrilled to introduce Nadia Begum, Sutton Crofts Employer Liaison Officer, our first employer from the Governments Kickstart Scheme. We asked Nadia a few questions about her experience and her aspirations.

Why did you apply for a Kickstart role?

I applied because I found an opportunity to help young people get into work. As a young person myself finding a job was difficult. When the pandemic lockdown started more people were out of jobs which meant the competitive rate for other jobs had risen, as well as businesses not having funds to hire. Finding a job went from difficult to impossible.

The kickstart scheme is an opportunity for both young people and business owners. If it were not for the kickstart scheme I would have been jobless. I believe the 6month opportunity has provided me a gateway to the world of work. Now I want to use the same gateway and help others.

What are you hoping to gain from your placement?

I hope to gain a strong network, as well as developing my skills and knowledge. Due to the pandemic, I have been out of work and this opportunity is allowing me to develop and grow for future work. It takes days to lose your confidence, so this 6-month placement is an opportunity to strengthen my confidence. I believe my confidence has strengthened through the scheme, As I am provided with training and constant interactions.

What would you say to other young people about accessing a Kickstart placement?

People all over the world struggle to find work. Our government literally provided us a step into work. A 6-month placement allowing you to strengthen or/and gain. Never let a good opportunity go. I took a chance with the kickstart scheme and I am finding it enjoyable. I also feel very supported as when I need help it is provided to me.

Any hobbies?

In my spare time I like to bake for charity. With the working hours the kickstart scheme provides it gives me an excellent work life balance.

Your career aspirations?

I would love to be in a management position in the future. I would also love to help young people into work as being one myself and going through the struggles I want to help ensure others do not struggle finding work.
